National Rounds Malaysia
We are delighted to inform you that LAWASIA and the Bar Council are organising National Rounds for the 14th LAWASIA International Moot Competition.
The National Rounds will be held on Saturday, 24th August 2019 and Sunday, 25th August 2019 at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (formerly known as the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration) ("AIAC"). The AIAC is housed in the 85-year-old Bangunan Sulaiman, which was previously home to the Federal Territory Syariah Court. Bangunan Sulaiman, originally known as the New Railway Offices, was officially opened in 1933. Over the years, Bangunan Sulaiman has housed a variety of government offices and eventually gazette as a heritage site in 1983. However, over the years, many ad hoc renovations that affected the building's conservation standards were carried out. In 2011, the Malaysian government earmarked the building to be KLRCA's new home. Despite restoration and refurbishment hurdles ahead, it was a dream come true. Bangunan Sulaiman was officially relaunched in 2014 as the KLRCA's new home and is now currently the home of Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC).
Although some universities or colleges may feel that their students are disadvantaged by the topics presented in the Moot Problem, LAWASIA believes that in the legal practice lawyers should be adaptive and versatile in researching the law. Teaching law students the ability to face challenges and having strong tenacity are important aspects to their training as young lawyers.
"Winning is not final and losing is never fatal," Sir Winston Churchill eloquently expresses his thoughts and perspectives of winning and losing in those simple yet, profound words. We believe that all participating students will leave the competition as winners – enriched by the experience, prepared for what is to come and inspired to reach out to the stars; for it is not failure itself that destroys mankind but the inability to accept defeat with grace, strength of character and the lack of moral fibre that causes the collapse of civilisations.
It is with those thoughts in mind that LAWASIA together with the Bar Council, extend this invitation to you to join this endeavour by sending your best teams to participate in the National Rounds of the 14th LAWASIA International Moot Competition. We look forward to your participation.
